The successful candidate will have a chance to join a global pharmaceutical and medical delivery organization that is transforming its procurement organization to become world class.  This role designs and executes global sourcing strategies for over $300 million of third party manufacturing spend.  It also provides strategic sourcing leadership and support to the Third Party Manufacturing organization.  This candidate will spearhead the procurement process that leverages scale, maximizes relationships with suppliers, minimizes risks and drives the overall value to the business.  In addition, this role engages with key business stakeholders in make versus buy analysis and works cross-functionally to create and implement procurement strategies, establishes strategic relationships with third party manufacturing supply base and develops supplier management strategies, and leads contract negotiations, implements performance based contracts and identifies opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership.

Key Responsibilities of Director of Third Party Manufacturing Position

  • Develop a strong understanding of third party manufacturing spend across the business, analyze contracts and identify opportunities for consolidation and leverage
  • Develop category market expertise, maintain up to date market intelligence and remain abreast of the changing supply base and new technologies
  • Oversee the procurement process and advise cross-functional teams through the management of spend and of sourcing strategy creation
  • Direct the efforts that lead to the optimization of costs, increased quality and service and enhanced innovation through procurement and the management of risks and supplier relationships.
  • Develop a negotiation strategy, lead contract negotiations and execute performance based agreements
  • Participate in make versus buy decisions and collaborates with key stakeholders to ensure engagement, buy-in and ownership of essential procurement strategies
  • Increase efficiencies of the supply chain, lower costs, and expand innovation by developing effective supplier management strategies
  • Improve awareness and make sure appropriate risk mitigation plans are enacted by leading and developing these risk management strategies
  • Lead and realize cost savings opportunities in line with company commitments

Essential Qualifications and/or Requirements

  • Operations experience:  Fifteen or more years
  • Procurement experience:  eight to ten years
  • Purchasing, finance, business administration, or engineering Bachelors degree
  • Proven experience creating and executing procurement strategies that have provided measurable business results
  • Demonstrated experience leading an organization with a highly complex (matrixed) environment
  • Ability to think broadly, strategically, and about possibilities; visionary
  • Ability to develop, grow and lead a team
  • Strong influencing skills – across all levels of an organization
  • Superior decision making skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task; understand and act upon a sense of urgency
  • Exceptional Procurement and Strategic Sourcing skills and knowledge

Desired Qualifications

  • Regulated industry experience (food, pharmaceutical, etc)
  • MBA
