Highlights of the Director of Procurement Position

This is a high level role within the Supply Chain organization.  The candidate will have primary accountability for managing all activities for products and services for the entire North American Operations.  There are a total of 11 employees reporting into NA procurement operations, 5 directly report to the incumbent.  The Director’s primary objective will be to optimize the total cost and total value of the raw material products and services category.  The incumbent will develop long-term strategies to achieve corporate objectives.  To accomplish this objective, the Director will be expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of supply management techniques and strategies, including: strategic sourcing; fact-based negotiation; supply market analysis; supplier relationship development; global sourcing/LCCS.  The incumbent will work very closely with Business Units to understand their business needs/objectives.

Key Responsibilities of Director of Procurement Position

  • Manage the North American procurement team consisting of over $400m in spend with 5 direct reports.
  • Active member of the NA management team and global purchasing team.  Provide detailed analysis on the impact of price/volume and availability on purchasing/business decisions.
  • Represents Global Procurement function in Executive Committee
  • Oversee procurement functions in the subsidiaries in South America (Argentina/Brazil)
  • Prepares and Monitors departmental budget for both direct and indirect materials
  • Acts as Commodity Manager for key commodities
  • Works closely with Global Commodity Group on commodity strategy
  • Surveys market for “spot buying” opportunities
  • Responsible for day-to-day supplier management
  • Provides forecasts for price developments for budgets and to support sales force based on market trends

Qualifications and/or Requirements

  • BS Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant Purchasing experience
  • Experience buying resins or similar commodity type products
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong strategic negotiation skills
  • Influencing skills
  • Ability to develop technical understanding of product line and manufacturing process
  • Experience in a matrixed business environment
  • International sourcing experience is a plus
