Highlights of the Global Commodity Manager Position

The successful candidate will have a chance to join a global organization that is going through a procurement transformation. Currently the commodity spend is sitting at all of the business units. The plan is to leverage spend at all of the business units in order to capture savings. This role develops and implements global sourcing strategies for $15 million in Substrates, Coatings and Epoxies. This candidate will lead the strategic sourcing process that leverages scale, maximizes supplier relationships, minimizes risks and drives business value. Engages with key business stakeholders and works cross-functionally in developing and executing sourcing strategies. Establishes strategic relationships with supply base and develops supplier management strategies. Leads contract negotiations, implements performance based contracts and identifies opportunities to reduce cost. This role will also have two direct reports: Global Buyers.

Key Responsibilities of Global Commodity Manager Position

  • Develop and issue cost/price forecasts, key commodity availability and capacities, market trends, and supplier profitability cost estimating techniques and price reporting systems.
  • Develops category market expertise, maintains market intelligence and stays abreast of the changing supply base and new technologies.
  • Directs efforts that lead to cost optimization, improved quality and service and enhanced innovation through strategic sourcing, supplier relationship and risk management.
  • Develops negotiation strategy, leads contract negotiations and executes performance based agreements.
  • Develops supplier management strategies that enhance innovation and quality, reduces costs and improves supply chain efficiencies.
  • Drive and deliver cost savings opportunities aligned with organization commitments.

Essential Qualifications and/or Requirements

  • 7-10 years in Procurement
  • Bachelors degree , MBA preferred
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing sourcing strategies that have yielded measurable business results
  • Good negotiation skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Purchasing experience including substrates, coatings and epoxies.  Specifically in these areas:  Optical coatings and filters (commercial, military, space & astronomy), optically coat a substrate (silicon, sapphire, germanium, chalcogenide, glass) convert this substrates to filters which can let people see at night, see your DNA, reflect light so that you can see.  A strong knowledge of SAP is a plus
