The Manager of Strategic Sourcing of role is part of the global procurement function that develops commodity expertise working with all sectors across the organization.  This position will implement the global purchasing strategy for selected commodities within each of the regions, utilizing the global leverage of the company.  It will focus on the development of regional/local relationships with global partners, ensuring the company achieves globally and regionally the best value in lower costs, improved reliability and improved service.  Of high priority is continuing oversight responsibility of successfully implementing recommendations from the sourcing project.  Regional leaders continue to be critical of developing commodity leadership, coordinating the company/supplier relationships, building and maintaining market and supplier knowledge in their assigned areas, and in continuously improving technical capabilities.  This role is pivotal in addressing these concerns by coordinating cross-functional relationships (i.e. product development & engineering) in support of commodity leadership.

Key Responsibilities of Manager of Strategic Sourcing Position

  • Provide commodity leadership in helping to create and implement a plan for building and maintaining a competitive advantage in the assigned commodity and region. Identify, develop, and implement effective global supply chain strategy to support the commitment to build a competitive advantage in supply chain.
  • Become intimate with the local business arrangements currently in place for purchasing on the commodities. Understand and communicate key drivers for each business unit, including current challenges, constraints etc.
  • Provide regional market information on the commodity, current and projected requirements, and information on current performance.
  • Development of a network of relationships with suppliers, line managers, and sector purchasing professionals.
  • Support and contribute to the selection of potential providers, ensuring local and regional knowledge is utilized.
  • Coordinate strategic sourcing and product engineering efforts to maximize the development of a robust supply chain with materials, processes and/or components that improve reliability, increase manufacturing ability, and cost and product integrity.
  • Ensure that within allocated region the company is easy to do business with for the commodity selected, flagging and attempting to resolve any internal issues that threaten a long term partnership arrangement.
  • Ensure there is an effective communication process regionally with the supply chain, and there is clear yet simple process, avoiding information overload from different regional and global commodity leaders. Ensure global process is communicated simply and without overlap.
  • Coordinate the effort to reduce commodity and process complexity in the assigned region.
  • Contribute to performance evaluation of suppliers.
  • Contribute to measuring success, including savings, improved delivery and simplified processes.

Qualifications and/or Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor degree in a relevant subject.
  • Language Requirements: Multi-lingual skills desirable, but not required.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel an anticipated 35% of the time.
  • Experience: The ideal candidate will have significant experience and a track record of success in purchasing/procurement. He or she will be able to understand and have worked in an environment of long-term strategic partnership arrangements, including scorecards and service level agreements. The candidate should have had a management level role in business with purchasing experience and must demonstrate competence in leadership and communication.
  • Skills: Overall, the ideal candidate is results-oriented, an excellent communicator and has demonstrated the ability to operate in a fast paced, continuous improvement environment.  Also, he/she is able to apply a global project on a local basis and achieve success for each stakeholder in the process.
