Highlights of Strategic Sourcing Manager Position

This high profile role will be a key part of the corporate strategic souring organization of a large privately held company. This is a chance for someone to join an organization that has started a procurement group from the ground up. Thus, allowing someone to make a significant impact on the direction of the company. The incumbent will maintain high visibility while working closely with key stakeholders.

To manage all aspects of assigned supply streams which include the creation of strategies, supplier spend analysis, supplier prioritization, contract negotiation and renewals, bench marking, compliance, supplier relations, contract compliance, and assuring the achievement of established cost reduction goals.

Key Responsibilities of Strategic Sourcing Manager Position

  • Responsible for the development, design, organization and control of one or more unique spend categories.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work with little-supervision.
  • Design, develop, document, and maintain supplier relationship strategies, programs, and supplier evaluation criteria (i.e. benchmarking and supplier score cards.).
  • To provide functional advice and support for electronic Purchasing transaction flows, and ensure that purchases are consistent with agreed contracts.
  • Calculate Total Cost of ownership (TCO), and encourage overall cost reductions.
  • Develop informed fact base for assigned spend categories and build a detailed understanding of the products and services in those categories.
  • Manage a consistent, competitive bidding process for assigned spend categories.
  • Conduct and create demand analysis, industry analysis, RFPs, RFIs and assist with supplier contracts and mentor others in their preparation.
  • Negotiate and implement value-based contracts consistent with customer requirements and companies sourcing strategy.
  • Negotiate with suppliers of categories to optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Manage fair and ethical supplier practices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with functional business unit departmental leaders to ensure that all sourcing is done according to established procedures and to build strong partnership.

Additional

  • Offer ideas on possible innovative approaches and creative strategies for building cross functional, integrated (horizontal and vertical) supply streams.
  • Conduct research and analysis within the Enterprise to determine current spending and demand information.
  • Suggest possible opportunities for additional cross-functional projects.
  • Assist with budget development, expense control and/or revenue generation for multiple departments or divisions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferred Major: Business or Supply Chain Management
  • Required: 3-5 years strategic sourcing experience, and 1-2 years management or team leader experience
  • Desired: Certified Professional Purchasing Manager (CPPM) and/or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM); 2-3 years managing a team of business professionals.

  • Job titles of direct reports: Strategic Sourcing Analyst
  • Travel Required? Yes; occasion travel required to attend Supplier workshops and training seminars.
