Job TG762: Director of Transportation
Core Accountabilities
Develop logistics network solutions that meet the current and future needs of CLIENT, its subsidiaries and customers. Review and improve supply chain tools (3PL’s, infrastructure), processes and procedures. Use lean methodologies to discover and drive significant change from ‘as is’. Seek out, introduce and apply industry ‘best practices’ with a focus on efficiency and sustainability. Create business plans and financial budgets.
Identify, target and acquire the services of LSP providers that support the mission of delivering ‘premium service’. Lead and engage key stakeholders in the network acquisition process, including the establishment of policies/standards/procedures and rates in LSP contracts. Ensure network LSP’s meet the economic, environmental and service goals of the company.
Meet and exceed the committed service levels to all key stakeholders, both internal (DC’s, subsidiaries) and external (customers). Create, monitor and report on the critical KPI’s that measure the performance of the LSP network against agreed upon service standards. Implement process changes that correct deviations from expected results. Responsible for payment processes and cost tracking that accurately improves the overall efficiency of the organization and reduces costs.
Provide leadership and energy to the Transportation organization in the following areas: hiring, development/training, lean thinking, adherence to policies.
Work Environment
- 60% General office environment with use of computer and phone. Command of full suite of Microsoft Office tools required.
- 20% Distribution Center operating environment. Understanding and adherence to all safety rules and regulations when in the operating area required.
- 20% Travel – generally to other general office environments (e.g. WHQ).
Qualifications and/or Job Requirements
- Minimum 4 year degree; prefer Business, Supply Chain, Logistics emphasis
- 10 years experience in progressively responsible, relevant Business Management positions, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role directly managing managers and professional-level staff.
- Technical:
- Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated supply chain with experience in transportation/logistics
- Previous ownership of RFQ processes and experience directly negotiating with transportation/logistics vendors, specifically with: domestic truck carriers (LTL, FTL), small package, third-party warehouses
- Responsibility for transportation/logistics support processes, specifically: claims, vendor payment processes, KPI’s, service standards, ‘mail and ship’ (outbound invoicing processes)
- Demonstrated success in developing automated data exchange connectivity between vendors and WMS, TMS and/or ERP systems (SAP experience a plus)
- Experience in the design and implementation of new distribution strategies such as: retail pool, IMC conversion, zone skipping etc
- Direct management of transportation/logistics operations in a retail supply chain environment
- Successful use of project management tools and methodologies in maintaining pace of key projects

- Demonstrated success in driving operational programs in a multi-brand / multi-customer environment
- Ability to network and utilize internal and external resources
- Must be skilled in meeting facilitation

- Prior work in ‘virtual’ organizational environments, with some or all direct reports and/or supervisors not necessarily co-located at same site
- Preferred Director or Manager of Transportation/Logistics from a US retailer
- Direct experience with domestic and international supply chain processes
- Direct experience with all key modes of transportation: ocean, air, small package, full-truckload, LTL, intermodal
- Direct experience in management of or acquisition/oversight of 3PL warehouse operations
- 10 years of progressively responsible positions in Supply Chain operations, last 5 years in a significant leadership role
- Bachelor’s Degree (concentration: Business, Operations Management, Logistics preferred)
