Highlights of Manager Contract Manufacturing Position

This key role will be an active and important member of both the sourcing team and the operations group of a multinational leader. The incumbent will manage the sourcing process for contract manufactured goods, which includes up to 20 contract manufacturers and 8 product categories. This will entail using analytical skills and negotiation experience to develop and execute a global contract manufacturing strategy. The incumbent will identify, evaluate, and qualify contract manufacturers to enable business strategies. Key will be to negotiate contracts, including pricing, service, confidential disclosures, specifications, manufacturing processes, and related. Also important will be to continually assess the program by partnering with key business leaders to assess the profitability of contract manufacturing and to achieve improvement in Total Cost of Ownership. As such, the Sourcing Manager will enjoy high visibility in a significant company.

Key Responsibilities for Manager Contract Manufacturing Position

  • Manage the toll manufacturing relationships for safety and quality according to company guidelines.
  • Identify, evaluate, audit and qualify contract manufacturers as required to support Business and Platform Team tactical plans while meeting Company policy and procedures for product quality and risk.
  • Manage confidential information transfer.
  • Ensure transfer of manufacturing procedures, raw material and finished product specifications, and analytical methods to contract manufacturers.
  • Negotiate and implement contracts for the contract manufacturing and tolling requirements of company according to Company guidelines.
  • Achieve year to year improvements in the Total Cost of Ownership.
  • Collaborate with Business and Platform management to improve the year to year profitability on the sales of contract manufactured goods.
  • Ensure that subcontracting price variance meets the budget.
  • Lead the continuous improvement efforts with regards to process of purchased contract manufactured goods.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements. Develop and implement performance metrics necessary to manage contract manufacturers.
  • Direct the development and improvement of the work processes necessary to manage contract manufacturers.
  • Manage the response to performance and quality risks and deviations.
  • Proactively evaluate contract manufacturers for supply and quality risk and develop a continuity plan to address risks.
  • Direct the day to day planning and purchases from contract manufacturers to ensure timely delivery of required goods that meet our specifications and quality requirements.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Company’s business strategies and tactics through the development of an effective global contract manufacturing strategy and tactical plan.
  • Prepare annual contract manufacturing budget and quarterly forecast monthly reports (Global Outsourcing Report, CM Profitability Report, Monthly Priorities).

Qualifications and/or Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required. Prefer BS in Business or Chemistry
  • Chemical industry experience preferred
  • Procurement experience important, but could be substituted by contract manufacturing strategy experience
  • Must be highly analytical and detail oriented
  • Experience with contracts necessary
  • Ability to lead / affect change through influence
  • Business and financial acumen necessary
