Highlights of Sourcing Associate Position

Supports the Global Sourcing team by providing strong analytical and research capabilities throughout the strategic sourcing process.  Works effectively with cross-functional teams of subject matter experts in engineering and operations.  Conducts research, evaluates market trends, and begins developing strategic sourcing expertise.  Provides support to Global projects and initiatives.

Key Requirements of Sourcing Associate Position

  • Provides high quality analytical support to strategic sourcing teams to facilitate a ‘fact based’ decision-making approach by leveraging all available data sources – accounting, purchasing, engineering, sales, suppliers, etc. – and historical analyses
  • Responsible for assisting in all aspects of the strategic sourcing process, including but not limited to creating category profiles, developing sourcing strategies, executing sourcing events, and conducting negotiations with suppliers
  • Organizes and documents all analysis steps and assumptions for future reference and supports ongoing reporting
  • Provides support and where needed project management skills to global initiatives which help in providing global infrastructure to the Global Sourcing Team
  • Provides Due Diligence and Post Most Merger Integration for all acquisitions
  • Works with cost category teams to conduct key quantitative and qualitative analyses:
    • Develops a spend profile (by category, supplier, location, etc.)
    • Analyzes supplier proposals; conducts qualitative (service) and quantitative (pricing) analyses
    • Assists Supply Chain to analyze and report on supplier performance
  • Researches industry benchmarks (pricing, quality, product changes, service levels, trends, etc.)
  • Researches and analyzes the supply market and supplier capabilities to provide the category team with strategic insight
  • Research industry options for proposed global initiatives
  • Assists Category Manager by working with engineering and operations to gather business specifications
  • Designs Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models to address elements of the landed cost elements, carrying cost elements and administrative cost elements
  • Assists in developing Request for Information (RFI)/Request for Proposal (RFP) documentation
  • Supports supplier negotiation framework including negotiation preparation information and tools, presentation materials and analyses, and participates in the negotiation process with suppliers
  • Works closely with the Finance Department and participates in measurement & benefit tracking of actual savings during and after implementation for a specific category
  • Takes corrective action as needed in response to analysis of quality, capacity, process, R&D, etc.
  • Leads the fact-finding, audit, and coordination of critical technical and financial data exchange from vendors, inter-organization, and/or interdivisional groups.
  • Supports best-value source selection analysis in the procurement process

Qualifications and/or Requirements

  • 5-10+ years in any combination of purchasing, strategic sourcing and supply chain management experience highly preferred.
  • Some oil and gas experience or power generation experience
  • Related Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business background required, MBA or related Masters preferred
  • Must be a proficient user in the entire suite of Microsoft office
