Our client is a leader in the Advanced Materials industry, and they’re seeking a candidate with relevant experience for an opportunity as a Purchasing Manager for their Elmore, Ohio site which supports two business units within the larger organization.  The successful candidate will have a chance to join a global organization that is going through a company-wide procurement transformation.  The right candidate will have the ability to organize and lead a Procurement Department and be able to add structure and process where needed.  This person will lead a small team of purchasing and inventory control professionals..  This is a progressive manufacturing environment so knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma would be highly valued.  The right candidate will possess the intangibles to grow into a greater leadership role within this business unit or elsewhere within the organization.

Key Responsibilities of Purchasing Manager Position

  • Manage tactical buyers across all AMTS locations in the United States, interview and hire staff, and oversee and conduct staff training.
  • Review and evaluate Purchasing activities for AMTS facilities and its affiliates with respect to performance, policies, objectives, and programs, and recommend and lead improvements as appropriate.
  • Locate suppliers of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them in order to determine product availability and terms of sales and review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
  • Analyze market and delivery systems in order to assess present and future material availability.
  • Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures and participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.
  • Resolve supplier or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers and represent companies in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers.  Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids.
  • Prepare reports regarding market conditions and merchandise costs, administer on-line purchasing systems, and assist in implementing the Continuous Improvement Process into the Materials function.
  • Assist business units, other functions, and affiliated purchasing activities as requested.
  • Maintain awareness of ethical practices, laws, regulations, and company policies which affect the Purchasing function and protect AMTS’s interest and reputation by administrating these functions in accord with ethical practices, laws, regulations and policies.
  • Work with the purchasing team and other functions to develop ordering process.
  • Support corporate purchasing with different initiatives and enforce purchasing corporate policy
  • Support local EH&S policies and practices.

Essential Qualifications and/or Requirements

  • Dynamic individual that is an outside the box thinker, self starter that requires little supervision/management.  Ability to project a positive and professional image on behalf of the organization.
  • Roll up your sleeves, total cost of ownership mentality. Ability to solve problems independently.  Excellent project management skills.
  • Strong communicator that is willing to collaborate with all levels of management to meet the needs of the business unit.
  • Previous management experience is desired, as well as someone that has experience with organizing a procurement department, and establishing process.
  • Ideal candidate will have contracting experience and be familiar with developing Terms & Conditions.  Strong negotiator that can not only address the near term needs of the business unit, but also has the vision to understand market conditions and be able to put together long term strategies for the commodity group under their control.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SAP experience is highly valued.
  • Possess solid oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with suppliers and all levels of staff throughout the organization.
