Key Responsibilities of Manager of Procurement Position

  • Serve as company’s subject matter expert related to chemicals/exipients including fine chemicals, specialty chemicals, and custom synthesis materials for the Global Sourcing & Procurement (GSP) organization.
  • Lead the Chemicals Center of Excellence to establish appropriate supply base, innovate and deliver cost improvement opportunities, ensure continuity of supply, and mitigate supply risk.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders such as Marketing, Manufacturing, R&D, Process Engineering, Technical Services, and other Procurement Center of Excellence’s to establish, communicate, and implement sourcing initiatives & business goals.
  • Responsible for understanding relevant commodity markets, external benchmarking, and establishing commodity guidance to set standard manufacturing costs related to chemicals and exipients.
  • Develop appropriate ‘should cost’ models for various chemicals & intermediates for all applications in Vision Care, Pharmaceutical, and Surgical business units.
  • Lead global selection of suppliers (chemical manufacturers, chemical distributors, and custom specialty chemical manufacturers) and negotiate supply agreements ensuring Company receives best value proposition including technology, quality, delivery, service, and cost.
  • Identify and implement strategic sourcing synergies across all business units and B&L plants.
  • Responsible for delivering established cost savings targets through competitive bidding process, effective negotiation, contracting, and supplier process improvements.
  • Responsible for performing all aspects of procurement activities in support of major initiatives including stakeholder requirement analysis, identification of bidders list, Requests For Proposal (RFP) development, conducting competitive bid events, supplier selection, negotiation, contracting, and supplier performance / service level tracking.

Essential Qualifications and/or Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering required;
  • MS or MBA and CPM/CPIM a plus.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Supply Chain/Procurement function.
  • Demonstrated experience in a multi-plant or multi-divisional global business.
  • Must have experience of the FDA/cGMP regulatory requirements as related to the process development & manufacturing.
  • Must have proven track record of successfully managing large projects and delivering results.
  • Previous experience analyzing product costs including raw materials and external factors influencing costs.
  • Must have knowledge of chemicals supply base and the dynamic of the value chain of the chemical (bulk, fine/specialty, and custom synthesis) commodities.
  • Must have knowledge of market pricing and economics of the chemical industry including the emerging market and LCC supply base.
  • Ability to develop a global commodity strategy and effective procurement processes / tactics to support strategy.
  • Negotiation skills and contracting skills are required.
  • Ability to think critically and multitask with sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with internal stakeholders and external resources at all levels.
  • Hands on supplier relationship management and working experience in an FDA regulated business, a plus.
