Highlights of Commodity Manager Position
The client has a need to bring in sourcing commodity managers to help manage indirect functional committees to ensure effective and collaborative sourcing decisions. They will join a growing procurement organization that includes analyzing markets and identifying trends. This includes leading and coordinating supplier negotiations.

With a name everyone recognizes, the client is truly a national leader. Operating three distinct business segments, they have seen record earnings for the last 4 years and are traded publicly. In terms of procurement, the CEO has initiated a plan to develop a world class strategic sourcing organization. The company org chart calls for 6 Category managers within two years. To help kick this off, the client retained a leading consulting firm. The individuals who come into the manager roles will help build the procurement organization with the chance to lead. The client plans to move strong performers into leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities for Commodity Manager Position
- Lead cross functional committees to ensure effective & collaborative sourcing decisions
- Analyze markets and Identify/monitor trends
- Lead and coordinate supplier negotiations
- Liaise with business units to gather and standardize requirements/fulfill procurement needs
- Develop trusting relationships with Client’s operations/businesses & suppliers
- Manage Contracts
Qualifications and/or Requirements
- Looking for a generalist (indirect commodities)
- Tackling multiple projects
- Good communication/selling skills – Going to have to present to stakeholders
- Must be able to work in a team environment – Not looking for an individual who is set in his ways only – Be able to adapt
- Process driven – Just recently had consulting firm come in to develop process and templates
- Looking for someone with drive/passion/energy
- 5 + years of experience – though client may look at someone more junior or senior
